Danjay Jacome
(He/Him) is currently a Junior at Montclair State University studying Molecular Biology with a Minor in Chemistry. Mr. Jacome graduated from Frank J. Cicarell Academy – Elizabeth High School in Elizabeth NJ and is well-rounded in tutoring:
- Intro to Chemistry (HS+UNI)
- Intro to Biology (HS+UNI)
- Chemistry Honors (HS)
- Biology Honors (HS)
- AP Chemistry (HS)
- AP Biology (HS)
With this, other topics can be equivalent to the courses listed above such as General Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Ecology.
My goal is to help students who come from any background achieve their goals for their future. Since everyone has different aspirations in life, I try to teach based on understanding over conventional memorization. With tutoring, I take aspects of what has not only worked for me but also from my peers and students I have tutored in the past. Biology and Chemistry require students to think beyond the definition of basic terms since the science world is constantly expanding. In other words, it’s based on what-ifs and exceptions to mainly every concept. This is why I like to implement activities, videos, and practice sheets/tests/exams, to help students expect how their professors could ask questions on tests and exams. With this said, I believe everyone has different ways and paces of learning and my goal as a tutor is to be your guide to problem-solving, teaching methods on how to study, and building more confidence when answering questions.
How tutoring sessions will look like:
- Student(s) will be asked what concepts are most difficult.
- If students have homework, they need help with, they will be taught a lecture on the homework before working on the worksheet.
- A lecture will be taught if needed—usually 1⁄4 of the session-however, this will require PowerPoint lecture from professor or notes from the student.***

A few things I require from students would be:
- The course the student is taking.
- Duration of the tutoring session.
- Learning Style.
- There will need to be 2-3 days notice as to what concept or chapter they need help with, so I can prepare a small lecture plan.
A few things students should expect from me is that I’m here as a mentor, friend, or second teacher for you. I strongly encourage participation when asking questions because that will help you as a student. The more participation, the more you and others will learn. Complete transparency is also key, as a mentor, so I expect you to help me understand things I can do better, such as the way I describe a concept or how to improve as a tutor. One last aspect is the cost of the sessions, which is an important factor for all families, and we try to work with the students and families to find a price that fits them.
